Mercedes 560 SEC – a legendary vehicle for the discerning

Mercedes 560 SEC in its original version is an extremely rare machine, especially if we are talking about a vehicle with AMG designation. Interestingly, the car can shock you with its price, as you have to pay crores for a well-preserved model!

It’s also worth noting that many of the productions are somewhat tuned, but this shouldn’t bother fans of the car.

Learn about the history of the Mercedes 560 SEC

The traditional Mercedes 560 SEC was created in the early 1980s. However, the biggest furore without question was the AMG version. Interestingly, it was created a few years later, and at that time AMG was still an independent company. This type of car was supposed to be driven primarily by wealthy people, looking mainly for luxury, but at the same time dynamic. After all, it should not be forgotten that the described Mercedes was extremely powerful and fast, and of course also smoked a lot, which, however, did not always matter to rich people.

People born in the 1960s or 1970s certainly had posters of this type of machine above their beds. Interestingly, it was ahead of its time with its design, and by a good few years.

What do you find under the hood of the W126 model?

Under the hood of the W126 model you will find different engine versions. It all depends, of course, on which one you bet on. In the case of the AMG, you’ll find a hand-assembled M117/9 6-liter engine waiting for you. This is an eight-cylinder unit with 400 horsepower. It’s also worth mentioning that you’ll find a four-speed automatic transmission here. The basic, if you will, version has a capacity of 5.6 liters and also has eight cylinders.

Power, however, is less, at exactly 300 horsepower. It should be noted here that the smallest engine had a capacity of 4.2 liters. The automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive give, above all, exceptional driving fun. You don’t have to focus on shifting gears, and you can still feel like you’re in a sports car.

The legendary Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC and its price

Of course, the Mercedes 560 SEC is no longer in production, so you can only buy it at collector auctions. However, it is worth noting that it is extremely difficult to find a well-preserved copy. When one is found, most often it is simply very expensive. Recently, we witnessed an auction where the starting price for an SEC model with a 5.6-liter engine with 300 horsepower was all of 90 thousand zlotys. Estimates at the time ranged from 110 to 160 thousand zlotys. The final price? Unfortunately for the buyer, it was higher, which certainly pleased the seller.

Construction ahead of its time – how does the W126 look?

Massively widened fenders and sills, a significant number of chrome parts and a beautiful black color are what you should pay attention to first when describing the W126 560 SEC model. It was undoubtedly a design many years ahead of its time, very aggressive, while at the same time guaranteeing the ability to travel freely also in the city. In the interior, on the other hand, we could find a lot of amenities, perfectly in keeping with the luxury character of this model.
