History of BMW Isetta – what is worth knowing?

This model appeared on the market in 1955. Its production ended in 1962, but despite this, it is still quite popular, and car collectors want to have it in their collections. This vehicle was produced for the European and American market.

The prototype of this vehicle was discovered by BMW in 1994 and aroused such interest that soon production began. For seven years as many as 161 728 copies were produced

It is worth knowing that an electric version of Isetta is currently being produced. This only proves how this vehicle was appreciated in the sixties. This is a timeless car that meets the expectations of even the most demanding drivers.

What models were available on the European and American market?

This vehicle aroused admiration and interest, which is why many people applied for it. It is a comfortable and small car, thanks to which moving on the road and parking was very easy. The car was ideal for novice drivers, as well as comfortable for experienced car fans

It is worth knowing that over the years several versions of this model were available on the market. In Europe available were:

  • Isetta 250 – produced in 1955,
  • Isetta 300 – produced in 1995,
  • BMW 600 – produced in 1957,
  • Isetta Dreirad – produced in 1958.

All of the models were very popular and well respected among the admirers of the BMW car brand. Only two versions were available in the American market: the Isetta 300 and 600, whose production ended in 1958 and 1959.

Technical data of BMW Isetta – it is worth to get acquainted with them

For true car lovers, the most important are the parameters of the vehicle. It is therefore worth noting that the initial Isetta 250 model had a single-cylinder air-cooled engine. The engine displacement was 247 cm³. The power of the engine in this model was 12 hp, and the total weight of the car was about 360 kilograms. Acceleration from 0 to 80 km/h was in 40 seconds.

The Isetta 300 had slightly different parameters, but the biggest changes were in the BMW 600 version, which used a two-cylinder air-cooled engine. Power output was 19.5 hp. The top speed increased from 80 km/h to 103 km/h.

What does a classic from the 1960s look like?

Another aspect that made this car stand out was, of course, its appearance. The original design made this little vehicle eye-catching and you could not take your eyes off it. Often seen were two-tone versions, where the roof and the upper part of the vehicle was painted white, while the lower part was kept in navy blue or red. This is a car that is elegant and stylish. Unfortunately, it does not give the greatest comfort to the drivers as it is small and difficult to take a comfortable position in it.

By already knowing the basic facts about the BMW Isetta car, you can easily determine why it is still popular today. This car from the 1960s was chosen by people who valued driving performance and, moreover, wanted to stand out on the road.
